Understanding the Youth Model of Care
The Brain and Mind Centre Youth Mental Health and Technology team have been working hard with young people to make their journey through the mental health system easier, we’ve collaborated with young people to develop the Youth Model of Care. Our goal in creating the Youth Model of Care is to ensure that young people get the right care, the first time, where they live.
Everyone knows that the Australian mental health system is complicated and a bit hard to navigate. It’s a bit of a jumbled mess. We also know that young people don't always get the care they need the first time they ask for help. The system treats everybody in the same way and it is organised in such a way that can make a young person feel like they need to fit into a box.
The Brain and Mind Centre team collected data from over 10,000 young people and their families to help us develop the Youth Model of Care. The model describes what a high quality personalised and measurement-based care really means and what it looks like.
