‘Right care, first time, where you live’ held its first workshop of the systems modelling phase in September in the Western Sydney region, with the support and collaboration of the Western Sydney Primary Health Network.
The Western Sydney PHN did a tremendous job of bringing the community together. People from all areas of the mental health system in Western Sydney were represented and it was wonderful to see so many young people with lived experience of the system, so engaged in the process.
At the end of the first workshop we had mapped out the youth mental health system in Western Sydney. The Brain and Mind Centre team will now take that information and transform it into a computer model that shows how the mental health system in Western Sydney is currently working.
“When we start this process of ‘Right care, first time, where you live’ in any area what I look forward to seeing is a lot of people, young people, diverse people, people from across the range of health, education, social services, coming together to wanting to solve the problem together. It was really fantastic at this workshop to see so many people in the room. The Western Sydney PHN team did a fantastic job of engaging with the community and with young people who have lived experience of the mental health system in this critical mapping phase of the systems modelling process,” says Professor Ian Hickie.
